Coach Stephen Fisher has 21 years of experience in all aspects of the sport including Paralympic fencing, blind fencing, and theatrical fencing.

He is a competitor (rated fencer in all weapons), internationally recognized coach, certified referee, and serves as the current secretary of the United States Fencing Coaches Association, as well as the tournament committee chairman of the Kentucky Division of USA Fencing.

In addition to his dedication to the Olympic sport, he is an amateur fencing historian, with a large collection of antique fencing weapons, gear, and texts.

Several pieces of his collection have been donated to Maestro Giancarlo Toran, of which are on display in the “Agora” Museum of Fencing, located outside of Milan, Italy in the town of Busto Arsizio.

Coach Calhoun was born and raised in Owensboro before moving to Bowling Green in 2010 where he attended WKU for his undergrad. Now, years later, he calls Bowling Green his home. Joining BGFA in the inaugural 2012 class, fencing quickly became a favored pastime. Calhoun has attended numerous fencing meets throughout the Kentucky and Nashville region over the years.

In January of 2016, he received his first rating as an epee fencer. In the winter of ’14, Calhoun began the process of becoming an assistant coach, Aide Moniteur. Coach Calhoun passed his Moniteur d’Epee (Epee Instructor) practical exam under Maitre d’Armes Laurie Schiller in the February of 2017.
